This Volunteers Week, we will be celebrating the cycling community who are continuing to do incredible things. Today we are focusing on what clubs have been up to during Covid-19.

Falkirk Junior Bike Club runs regular coaching sessions throughout Falkirk with the aim of giving young people (aged 4-16) the best opportunities possible to develop a healthy lifestyle through the sport of cycling.

Covid-19 has had a huge impact on the club as all physical sessions have stopped, and they have since seen a massive reduction in engagement. In recent weeks they have endeavoured to migrate more of our activities to a virtual environment and have devised a 16 week activity manual that they have called the #FJBCPassport

They have had this printed and posted out to all 150 members of the club.

The FJBC passport provides 16 weeks of activities for young people of all ages to develop their cycling skills without the need for any specialised equipment. Since they shared it to all of their members, they have had a significant level of interest from young people from outside the club getting a copy.

They created an expression of interest form and in 48 hours had over 600 requests, from all over Scotland, with over 90% of those requesting not currently a member of a cycling club.

The passport has three main areas. It encourages the participants to think of others, and have a box in each week to note how you will make an impact in the lives of others (see above Ryan and Gemma who have drawn a picture for their local Hospice). It provides a link to an online video or a description of how to do something under the theme of 'bike knowledge' and lastly there is a section providing a weekly skills challenge to develop the individuals cycling ability.
