Scottish Cycling is delighted to announce that Walkers Cycling Club will play host to a round of the 2018-19 HSBC UK National Trophy Cyclocross Series.

Scotland welcomes the second round of the Series on the 27th & 28th of October 2018, taking place at Irvine Beach Park. The event, which is a UCI Category 2 race, utilises a newly-designed course to incorporate Irvine’s classic sand sections and traditional cyclocross features.

This will be the first time that a British Series Cyclocross event takes place in Scotland. The success of the application is testament to the hard work of the organising club and partnership working between Walkers CC, North Ayrshire Council, the Scottish Cyclocross Association and Scottish Cycling.

Morven Brown, Scottish Cycling National Events Officer, said, “It is really exciting that Walkers Cycling Club has secured a round of the HSBC UK National Trophy Cyclocross series at Irvine in 2018. The course is one of the classics on the Scottish calendar, and the organising team from Walkers CC has put in a great deal of effort to develop features to National Trophy standard. With the average entries at Scottish Cyclocross Series races currently being over 500 riders, the sport of Cyclocross in Scotland is in a very strong position.”

Craig Burn, Scottish Cycling Chief Executive said, “We are delighted that the second round of the HSBC UK National Trophy Cyclocross Series will be held in Scotland. We are extremely proud of the success of our cyclocross riders and organisers in Scotland – be that at local level to introduce riders to the sport right up those racing at World Cup level. With Grant Ferguson and Sean Flynn winning the National Cyclocross Championships in Hetton Lyons this weekend, we look forward to seeing Scottish riders wearing their Champion’s jerseys here in Scotland.”
