Scottish Cycling Regions are now accepting applications from Riders and Team Managers/Coaches to take part in the Youth Tour of Scotland 2018!

The Youth Tour of Scotland is one of Scottish Cycling’s flagship stage race events and will take place between 6th-9th April 2018. The race HQ will be Strathallan School, Forgandenny, Perth PH2 9EG.

Riders (and the parents of)  who wish to be considered for selection to ride for one of the Scottish Cycling Regional teams for the 2018 Youth Tour of Scotland must complete the form and submit by Friday 15th December. Please note that in accordance with Scottish Cycling general entry guidelines, once any team entry has been confirmed riders may not transfer their entry from a regional team to a club team.

Eligibility to ride for a SC region

To qualify for selection for a regional team, riders must be in the appropriate age category for the 2018 season and be willing to ride for the Scottish Cycling region as shown on their BC Licence. Please note that in accordance with Scottish Cycling general entry guidelines, once any team entry has been confirmed riders may not transfer their entry from a regional team to a club team.

Age categories

Boys - Youth A age category (U16, born 2002 or 2003)

Girls - Youth A (U16, born 2002 or 2003) or Girls Youth B (U14 born 2004 or 2005)

Riders must have completed and submitted their application form by the specified date.

Rider costs

Riders will be expected to contribute £100 towards the cost of the event. They will receive use of cycling kit a (regional Jersey) to be returned after the event, and a hoodie to be retained by the rider.

These teams will each be supported by a team manager and if available a coach who will have their fees covered by the SC region.

Rider Selection Policy   

The Regions will be running coaching and race sessions to help with the selection process. You will receive information about these in due course. Final selections will be made in the week commencing 26th Feb 2018, and riders informed of selection decision thereafter.

Selection Panel

Team selections will be made by the youth club coaches from within the Scottish Cycling Region.

Each club from which a rider has applied will be eligible to nominate one coach to vote on the selections. Other youth club coaches may attend the selection meeting as observers and contributors.

If a rider comes from a club without a coach, or a non-youth club, they may nominate a representative to act on their behalf at the selection meeting.

The Scottish Cycling Regional Development Officer shall oversee the selection process to ensure fairness, however will not have a vote on team selection other than where a casting vote is required.

Selection Criteria

Selections will take into account performance at races, supported by aptitudes and attitudes displayed at coaching sessions.

Race results will be prioritised in the order of:

•         International

•         British National

•         Scottish National

•         Scottish Regional

Selections will also take into account:

•         Attacking riding / ability to make repeated efforts

•         Bike handling ability / cornering skills, etc…

•         Tactical awareness

•         Finish position

•         Self-sufficiency / behaviour / discipline

•         Commitment to team efforts

•         Application, aptitude and attitude displayed at regional training sessions

Selections will not necessarily be based upon rider’s National Ranking or points based system.

Selection may take into account greater factors than previous race results, and will include ambitions and potential.

Priority shall not be given to older riders.

The decisions of the selection panel shall be final. Where a rider has questions or requires more information on their selection process, they should contact their coach representative in the first instance, followed by their Scottish Cycling Regional Development Officer.

Selections will be made in the week commencing 26th Feb 2018, and riders informed of selection decisions thereafter. The decision of the selectors is final and there is no appeal process.

Expectations

The selected team including any reserves will be expected to make every effort to attend training sessions to be organised in the lead up to the event.
