News in brief: Who is racing what, where?

Despite this weekend (26th August) being Scottish National Championship free, there is still plenty going on and lots of riders off competing in various parts of the world.

Mark Stewart is in his final day at the Tour de L’Avenir after racing with the British team since 19th August.

Lewis Stewart continues his search for medals at the UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships in Montchiari, Italy riding with the Great Britain Cycling Team.

Scottish Cycling Coach Mark McKay has also travelled to Wales with Joe Nally, Stephen Dent, Sean Flynn and Tim Shoreman who will all be riding for Scotland in the Junior Tour of Wales this weekend. Another great opportunity for Junior riders following on from the Tour Series and Junior CiCle Classic.

The Scottish BMX community also have a huge representation at the HSBC UK British BMX Championships this weekend with a whopping 38 Scots on the start list. Good luck to everyone who made the journey to Derby. Racing will be on from today until Sunday (27th August.)

Next weekend also marks the start of the inter-regional competition with Scottish teams competing in Road (31st Aug-3rd Sep), BMX (9-10th Sep), Track (16-17th Sep) and MTB (23-34th Sep).

If that is not enough, Grant Ferguson, Isla Short and Kerry MacPhee will also be competing at the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Val di Sole, Italy this weekend.

If you don’t have anything on this weekend, get yourself down to Glasgow City Centre on Sunday for the HSBC UK City Ride, offering the chance to ride round the city traffic-free as well as some other fun activities for both adults and kids!
