The winners of Scottish Cycling’s Youth Tour of Scotland will receive VIP treatment at the Tour of Britain this September.

The Youth Tour of Scotland is one of Scottish Cycling’s flagship events and the biggest youth stage race in the UK, so the opportunity to witness an elite stage race up close is a fitting prize for the aspiring riders.

Both male and female yellow jersey winners will be able to pick which stage of the Tour of Britain to attend. Full details of The Tour of Britain route will be announced in late April.

The event, which takes place over four days between 7th-10th April will see 140 riders from the UK, Ireland and Isle of Man battling it out on closed roads in Perthshire with stages being held in Forteviot, St. Davids and Forgandenny.

Last year Scottish rider Dylan Hughes and Welsh rider Ella Barnwell won the top prize and went along to the Tour of Britain last September, attending stages in Cumbria and Wales respectively.

Tour of Britain Race Director Mick Bennett said:

“This will be a great opportunity for the winners of the Youth Tour of Scotland to attend Britain’s biggest professional cycle race, and for the stars of tomorrow to meet the world’s biggest stars as they race on British roads.”

Sarah Macintyre, Events Manager for Scottish Cycling and organiser of the event said:

“I am really looking forward to seeing all of the riders who are going to be taking part in the Youth Tour of Scotland this year, the event has gone from strength to strength and the talent who come from all over the UK and afar raise the bar each year.

We are delighted that the Tour of Britain is going to be offering prizes to our winners again this year; the Tour of Britain is an event which inspires participation, and is an aim for many young talented road riders.

On behalf of Scottish Cycling I would like to wish all of the riders good luck and extend a thank you to the communities of Forteviot, Forgandenny, St. Davids and Perth and Kinross Council, the volunteers and commissaires and also Strathallan School for helping to make a fantastic weekend of racing.”
