Stirling Bike Club, in collaboration with the University of Stirling, Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence, are proud to announce the return of the Crit on the Campus cycle race. The fourth edition of the event takes place on Sunday 2nd April.

Building on the success of last year’s race, Crit on the Campus 2017 will be bigger than ever before. With two extra races this year, this will be one of the biggest race days in the Scottish road racing calendar, with over 450 riders competing on the 1 mile circuit around the University of Stirling’s picturesque countryside campus.

The University Campus grounds will be closed and transformed into an exciting and unique race course for riders of all abilities. Take in the glorious setting as riders race for up to an hour on a circuit that loops around the main University building, and which includes a few speed bumps and twisting turns.

Racing begins at 8.30 am with a series of youth races, showcasing the future stars of the Scottish road racing scene. We are especially pleased to be hosting Round 2 of the Scottish Cycling Youth Series, which is for U14 and U16 riders. At 11.20, there will be the first new race of the event. We are pleased to be hosting a race for Special Olympics riders, some of whom have competed for Great Britain. The riders will undertake individual time trials round the technical circuit. Then, at 12.00 and 12.50, there will be packed fields for the two men’s 4th category races. Our second addition to this year’s race day sees a 3rd and 4th category men’s race, and this will start at 1.50 pm. Following this, the women’s race – open to all categories – and the men’s Elite/1st/2nd/3rd category race take place at 2.45 and 3.50, respectively.

With a total prize fund of over £1800, the races promise to be fast and frantic with some of the best riders from the UK battling it out. Top riders include Flora Gillies of Team 22 WRT, and Ellen McDermott of EDCO Continental. In the men’s race, riders to watch include Pro Vision’s Richard McDonald, Wilson Renwick (Velo Schils - Interbike RT), Stephen Dent (Spokes RT) and Arthur Doyle (Dooley’s Cycles). Stirling Bike Club are strongly committed to promoting women’s cycling at all levels, and, like all our other events, there is equal prize money for men and women, with a first prize of £150 for the men’s and women’s races. In addition, there is a combativity prize for the women’s race, with the recipient receiving the Olwyn Dobson Trophy and a cash prize.

All spectators are welcome to support the riders and experience the friendly and exciting atmosphere! Spectators can view the races from anywhere on the course whilst walking around the University campus, or enjoy the action in the events village at the heart of the circuit. Whether one of the 450+ competitors, or just soaking up the atmosphere as a spectator, Crit on the Campus should be an enjoyable day out for all on Scotland’s most beautiful campus.
