The second round the popular Scottish National Cyclo-Cross Series takes places this weekend (Sunday 23rd October) at Knockburn Loch.

The loch has been home to a Cyclo-Cross race every year since 2009, organised by Deeside Thistle CC, and since then it has expanded dramatically; from around 40 participants to this year having over 450 riders expected to take the start line – a record.

Last year Elite Downhill racer Greg Williamson, who has been taking top ten UCI Downhill World Cup positions this year, chose this location to compete in his first ever cross race, and came 4th.

To mix it up a bit, this year the organisers have reversed the direction of the course, added a new section of rolling grassy parkland and incorporated a new, longer climb.

As well as all that, there’s a new ‘Start-Finish’ straight and a wider section through the pinewoods. Both the Under 8 and Under 12 courses have also been completely redesigned to be fun, safe and challenging.

However the most unique feature of the course is the “uphill sandpit”; it starts off easily rideable, but by the time the Senior Open racers hit it, only the strongest can ride through cleanly.

Head to the sandpit for the biggest crowds and a fantastic atmosphere where you can cheer on the lead riders.
