Scotland has proven itself to not only be the home of some of the best mountain biking trails in the world – but also some of the best mountain bikers in Britain.

Scots Grant Ferguson and Greg Williamson both took the top spot in the British National Cross Country Mountain Bike Championships and the British National Downhill Mountain Bike Championships, respectively, at the weekend (Sunday 17^th July.)

Grant Ferguson, who rides for Betch.NL Superior Brentjens MTB Racing Team, was also selected to represent Team GB at the Olympic Games in Rio this summer.

As for Invernesian Greg Williamson, 24, who signed with Cube Global Squad at the beginning of the year, the championship title adds to a string of fantastic UCI Downhill MTB World Cup results this year; 6^th in Cairns, 7^th in Fort William and 6^th in Leogang.

The British National Cross Country Mountain Bike Championships took place on the Commonwealth Games course at Cathkin Braes, Glasgow this year – a fitting location for Scots to dominate the podium.

In the elite women, Kerry MacPhee (Rock and Road Cycles) took 2^nd place, with Under-23’s Isla Short (Novus OMX Pro Team) and Lucy Grant (Bicycle Works Race Team) taking 2^nd and 3^rd in their category respectively. All three are part of the Scottish Cycling development programme.

Great Britain Academy rider Mark McGuire (100% ME) took 2^nd place in the Under-23 males, obviously enjoying being back on home turf.

In the Youth Male category, rising star Sean Flynn (Edinburgh RC) took the top podium spot – another championship title to add to his collection after a win at the British National Youth Circuit Championships.

Anna McGorum (Peebles CC) made sure Scotland wasn’t left off the podium in the Youth Female category – taking 2^nd place.

Juvenile rider Jamie Johnston (Pro Vision Cycle Clothing) from Helensburgh took 1^st place with Anna Flynn (Edinburgh RC) following in her brother’s footsteps, taking 2^nd place in the juvenile females.

In the Masters Male, David Lines (Wheelbase Altura MGD) who has been leading the Scottish Cycling Alba Series this year, showed his talent on the knobbly tyres – taking 1^st place on the podium.

Scots dominated the podium in the Masters female category with Gillian Pratt (Leslie Bike Shop/Bikers Boutique) and Heather Shanks (Concept Group) taking 1^st and 2^nd place.  

On the same weekend the British National Downhill Mountain Bike Championships took place at Llangynog in Wales – with lots of Scots travelling to compete and show off their talents.

Four of the top ten in the Youth Male category were Scottish riders Henry Kerr (Revolution CT), 1^ST place, Jamie Edmondson (FMD Racing), 2^nd place, Alec Geyer (We Love Mountains), 5^th place and George Kerr (Revolution CT), 9^th place.

Local Fife star Tea Jensen (Leslie Bike Shop/Bikers Boutique) also made an appearance in the Youth Women category, just missing the podium with 4^th place.

In the Junior Male Jack Wilson made it to the top ten in 9^th position, and Cairn Bell took 5^th place in the Junior Women.

In the master categories, Alan Blyth took 5^th place in the 30-34 males. John Young took 3^rd in the 40-44 males, Graeme Cochrane came 6^th in the 45-49 male and Lewis Jones 4^th in the Grand Veteran Male.
