In 2014 Callander Mountain Bike Trails - as part of the Callander Community Development Trust - began exploring the possibility of creating purpose-built mountain bike trails in and around Callander. Having been awarded Lottery funding, via Awards For All Scotland, a full study was commissioned to explore the proposals.

Bike Callander are delighted to announce that the feasibility study is now complete and can be read in full on their website.

The study has looked at a wide-range of factors including the potential for improved tourism, best suited locations, and the benefits to the schools and local clubs.

The study recommends that the most suitable location for family-friendly mountain bike trails is in Coilhallan Wood. The accessibility to the town, proximity to the schools and leisure centre, and the relative under-use of this woodland area all contribute to this recommendation.

The macro design is a mountain bike trail of up to 6km in length, a skills development area and a shared-use sensory trail – for use with adaptive bikes. A number of trail design features have been incorporated to enable rider skill progression and to facilitate integration with existing users of the woods.

Callander Mountain Bike Trails will hold public drop-in sessions at the McLaren Leisure Centre, on the evenings of the 21st and 22nd of April (6pm till close) to present the proposal.

They invite everyone to come along and find out more information - and to provide your comments and feedback to the planning team. (Please note that comments made to the developer are not representations to the Planning Authority).
