This Sunday the University of Stirling’s campus will welcome over 300 racers to compete in its very first closed circuit race extravaganza! Organised by Stirling Bike Club in conjunction with the University of Stirling, Crit on the Campus promises to be an extraordinary event: from a highly competitive Bike Shop Race which will see racers representing shops from Glasgow, Edinburgh, central Scotland and Fife, to an exciting Women’s race offering equal prize money to the proceeding men’s race. Why not take in the glorious setting and watch riders such as team pursuit World Champion Katie Archibald, and Commonwealth games bronze medallist James McCallum give all they’ve got on a technical circuit that loops right around the main campus buildings (with a few speed bumps, twisty turns, and even a lovely smooth downhill switchback along the way). There will be prizes galore, all donated by bike shops and cycling organisations.
The Youth D/E race kicks of at 8.30am which will see the cycling stars of the future race on the exact same course as the seniors. Road furniture and all!
The 4th category race is our most over subscribed event, so we decided put on two races! This is for those new to the sport, with high hopes to move up through the British Cycling category system.
The Women's race is gearing up to be a compact and tactical race and there is also a trophy on offer, the Olwyn Dobson Combativity Award for the most attacking ride. Women's dedicated race also will have equal prize money.
The E/1/2/3 race should be quite a spectacle with cash on offer and some lovely prize goodies!
The race will use a timing chip system to produce quick and accurate results after the race has finished, and help us oldies count laps!
Everyone is welcome, come and support one of the fastest growing sports in Scotland!
