Scottish Cycling has opened applications to join the Scottish Cycling Performance Programmes for 2013 - 2014.
Overseen by Gary Coltman, Scottish Cycling's new Head of Performance this is your chance to be part of an exciting chapter in our commitment to support our best cyclists to achieve on the world stage. You can read Gary’s profile here
Scottish Cycling’s objective is to help the best Scottish Cyclists progress to become world class riders in all disciplines. If you think that you have what it takes to perform on the world stage in the future and be competitive for Commonwealth Games medals, we would like to hear from you.
The programme is open to applications from riders competing in Elite, Under 23 and Junior categories and an overview of each programme is as follows:
Elite Performance Programme (Road, Track, MTB) – Athletes who have demonstrated they have the potential to meet the 2014 selection standards and go on to perform with distinction (top 8) at the Commonwealth Games in 2014, or represent Scotland at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, or play a support role in our quest for medals, particularly in Glasgow2014. With Glasgow being the major focus for 2014, and less than a year away, the riders will be selected to the programme very much with this in mind across all disciplines.
U23 & Junior Development Programme (Road, Track, MTB) – The programmes are focused solely on athlete development and riders will be selected based on ability to progress along the performance pathway to ultimately earn places on GB programmes, Professional Teams, and medal at Commonwealth and Olympic Games.
All programmes require significant commitment along with a high work ethic and tremendous desire to succeed at the highest level. Coaching input, support and guidance are the foundations on which the programmes are built. Competition opportunities, training sessions and camps will form a part of the support, and all programme members will be expected to commit to an appropriate, domestic (UK) competition programme that will challenge and develop them alongside the support provided by the performance programme.
The Scottish Cycling Performance Programme will run from the 1st November 2013 – 31st October 2014 with a review taking place early in the summer of 2014 in line with selections for Glasgow2014. All programmes will include an induction to the programme with all SC performance programme staff. Further information and dates will be confirmed to applicants in due course.
