The governance review, published earlier this year (2013) made some key recommendations one of which was to create “Excellent Communities of Cycle-Sport” and to review the role and responsibilities of Centres.
Scottish Cycling have established a Governance Group which has met twice with the Centres to explore the best way forward. These meetings, the work of the governance review and an analysis of the sports development systems in Scotland have outlined two principle options. In both options a redefinition of the roles and responsibilities of the Centre is required.
- Tidy up existing geographic boundaries aligning with local authority boundaries
- Redefine the Centre boundaries and reduce the number of Regional Centres from 8 to 5
These options require some changes to be agreed at an AGM. The support of the clubs is crucial in taking these options and improvements forward.
The aim of the meetings is to outline the options, answer questions, involve and engage the clubs in improving the local services and support they receive and make Scottish Cycling a more efficient organisation, and a more effective Governing Body. A Discussion Paper and Terms of Reference can be found above.
Scottish Cycling welcome questions on creating “Excellent Communities of Cycle-Sport and refocusing the Centres” and hope to publish a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on our website. You can submit your questions in advance of the club meetings, at the meetings or anytime up until 9.00am on the 9th September by completing this online question form.
