TEAM GB STRIKES GOLD AT 2013 WORLD JUNIOR TRACK

Team GB struck gold twice tonight at the 2013 Juniors Track World Championships at the iconic Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow’s Emirates Arena.  Cycling star Danielle Khan, 17 from Solihull, won the 500m Time Trial in the first final of the evening to give Team GB their first medal of the championships. She was followed home by the Women’s Pursuit Team who smashed the world record for the second time on Thursday to win Team GB’s second gold of the day.

Hayley Jones, 17 and Amy Hill, 18 from Wales and Emily Cave, 17 from Bromsgrove and Emily Nelson, 16 from Lichfield were cheered home in the new world record time of 4 minutes 36.147 seconds in the final event of the evening by a large crowd who stayed until all 4 were presented with their Gold Medals. 

The 2013 JTWC is being held in Glasgow between Wednesday 7 and Sunday 11 August and features more than 250 of the very best young track cyclists from 32 countries.

Riders are going for gold in a range of events including the team sprint, keirin, individual pursuit, omnium, sprint, madison, points race, team pursuit, scratch race and various time trials over five days of world-class action. Glasgow joins an elite list of JTWC host cities that includes Los Angeles, Cape Town and Moscow.
