Scott Contessa Road Race Academy enters Phase 2!

Scottish Cycling is pleased to announce the selection of the first 7 Scott Contessa Road Race Academy Coaches from across Scotland. Each Academy coach will run a series of satellite sessions prior to hosting a weekend of road race specific coaching that culminates in an exciting race for female riders.

The Scott Contessa Road Race Academy is a coach development initiative by Scottish Cycling aimed at raising the profile of female coaches within the cycling community. As the project’s name suggests it is supported by Scott Sports, a name famous within road cycling for equipping the Orica Green Edge pro cycling team and the UK based Scott Contessa Epic women’s team.

The Scott Contessa Road Race Academy programme offers a structured and welcoming introduction to female riders who may be new to road racing by building towards a weekend of closed road circuit coaching and mock racing practise. Every one of the Scott Contessa Road Race Academy coaches will build their riders’ skills and confidence to a level where they become ready to engage in fast, close proximity bunch racing.

The Scott Contessa Road Race Academy coaches are:

Sarah Barry - Glasgow

Elizabeth Adams - Glasgow

Diane Clayton – Linlithgow / Central

Kirsteen Torrance - Borders and Fife

Linda Mclean - Edinburgh

Melanie Macrae – Golspie and Perth

Toni Macartney – Dumfires and Galloway

Sarah, Elizabeth, Linda and Melanie all made it to The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome on 26 January 2013 for the launch of the Scott Contessa Road Race Academy Coaches. The rest of the team faced tough travelling conditions thanks to the Scottish winter and couldn’t make it along, but all our coaches have now established plans for their regional coaching sessions.

Phase two of the project, which we now enter, sees the implementation of the satellite coaching sessions as well as a renewed drive for additional racers and event volunteers.

The coaching and racing weekend will take place on the 23rd and 24th March 2013 at the Royal Highland Show ground, Ingliston. This will include a range of female riders from novice to elite riders who can take on members of the Scott Contessa team in a handicapped criterium style event.

We are now looking for female volunteers to assist in the running of events, so if you can spare a few hours before or during our event weekend in March.  Please get in touch!
