Biography

Hi my name is Calum I’m 17 years old 2nd year junior and I come from Glenrothes in the sunny Kingdom of Fife! I have been racing bikes for 4 years; I began racing mountain bikes in 2010 sponsored by my local bike shop (Leslie Bike Shop). I then made the transition to road racing full time in 2012 and have become totally hooked, I love the crazy speeds and the challenging nature of the sport. I had many ups and downs last season being new to road racing, I have learned from my mistakes and now have a smarter/wiser head on my shoulders, I hope! I’m very self-driven and definitely my hardest critic, I always want to get the very best out of myself. I began working with Ben Greenwood in June last year, which has been great as he is someone with so much experience he’s like a Jedi master of road racing! He has been coaching me ever since it has been great to have some structure and discipline to my training this has brought me on leaps and bounds as a rider. I’m in my 6th year at Glenrothes High School where I am currently sitting four Highers life can get pretty hectic with school work and training but it is definitely worth it in the end. So far I have had relatively decent winter training especially with the junior camps in Dumfries which helps keep you motivated when the weathers rubbish and its dark most of the time. However right now I am absolutely itching to race and can’t wait to get stuck into the 2013 race season!

Who inspires you and why

I have lots of respect for riders such as my coach Ben Greenwood and a large number of Scottish riders such as the elites and the juniors as these are people you see on a regular basis, you see the hard work and dedication they put in which definitely keeps you motivated as a rider. My biggest inspiration however is definitely my Dad who is also my number one fan and mentor. He is the one who is as happy as me if not happier when I get good results but also the one that is always there to pick me up and cheer me up after a bad result!
