The SXC series is a great day out for everyone who wants to get stuck into bike racing. There are categories ranging from under 12’s to Elite athletes at the top of the sport. The series even offers races for those who just want to a fun day out and explore new riding spots around Scotland. For more information please read our ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ guide.

Some highlights of this year’s series will be the first race on the new mountain bike trail, which is being created for the Commonwealth Games in 2014, at Cathkin Braes, Glasgow. A return of the series to the Highlands with an event ran by Ben Wyvis Cycle Club on some superb singletrack and heading back to some of the best courses from last year in Forfar, Drumlanrig and Kirroughtree.

Bill Ross, Chair of SXC, commented on the series “The courses we have selected for this year’s series are the best we have ever seen. I would recommend anyone who wishes to challenge their mountain biking skills to take part in the series. The riding is amazing and the atmosphere at the events is competitive but friendly.”

Competitors’ race results will be collected and the best 4 performances out of the 5 rounds in the series will be taken into account for the overall standings.

The series is run entirely by volunteers from the national organising committee through to the clubs who help organise each round. The SXC committee is looking to recruit new volunteers to strength the committee in the following roles: Treasurer, secretary, sponsorship secretary and General Committee members.

Bill Ross explained the need to recruit new volunteers “We are entering an exciting time for mountain biking and we need to capitalise on the increased profile of the activity by recruiting new members onto our committee. With committed volunteers our activity will go from strength to strength and help develop world class athletes. The roles are challenging but they are rewarding – and you will be offered the training you’ll need to do a great job. We are keen to receive applications from anyone with a keen interest in mountain biking and with regard to the more specialist roles we are keen to receive applications from anyone with a background and experience in finance and sponsorship.”

Full descriptions for each of the roles can be found on by clicking here

The committee hope to appoint new members at the SXC AGM which will be held on 19th January 2013. Beginning with an informal ride around the new trails at Cathkin Braes leaving the top car park at 10am followed by the AGM at 1pm at Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Emirates Arena, 1000 London Road, Glasgow, G40 3HY.
