Rab Wardell (Alpine Bikes Racing) will be competing in the Tradewinds/Sime Darby Foundation Langkawi International Mountain Bike Challenge,  a 6 day mountain bike stage race starting Monday 15th October. The Class 2 UCI stage race is one of only 10 UCI stage races on the annual calendar and boasts a wide range of stages and a $125,000 prize fun. Rab will compete with some of the best riders in the world including Specialized riders Burry Stander of South Africa and Todd Wells of the USA. Team Bulls  Marathon specialist Karl Platt looks to defend his title while Florian Vogel of Scott-Swisspower makes his first appearance at the race. In the womens race Swiss rider. Nathalie Schneitter of Colnago/Sudtirol will look to defend her title against tough opposition from Specialized rider Lea Davidson from the USA!

The race starts on Monday with a short 2km prologue at Eagle Square near Langkawi Jetty. The subsequent days are marathon and cross country stages through the jungle of Langkawi Island, where the terrain and climate won't only challenge the rides but the wildlife will too, with leeches, scorpions, cobras, pythons, monkeys and elephants to contend with! The race will finish with a beach criterium on Saturday the 20th of October'

Rab said "Going into the race I have no idea of what I am capable of. I hope to adapt to the humidity and heat well and will aim to race the stages well, riding smoothly and racing smart. If I can finish the week in the prize money with UCI points that will be a bonus as well. I am just welcoming the opportunity to race in such an amazing country and experiencing a new culture. I'm looking forward to it!"


Day 1 - 1.8km Prologue

Day 2 - 65km Round Island 

Day 3 - 45km East to west 

Day 4 - 90km Langkawi Marathon

Day 5 - 4.5km lap Geopark Cross Country 

Day 6 - 1.5km lap On the Beach!
