Paralympian, Aileen McGlynn OBE, confirmed to speak at Scottish Cycling’s first Festival of Inclusive Cycling!

The London 2012 Paralympic Games was arguably the biggest and best games yet with over 4294 athletes from 164 National Paralympics Committees participating this summer, ticket sales reached an all-time high and with Team GB winning 108 medals, 22 of which came from Team GB cycling.

To make sure that we continue this success Scottish Cycling, in association with Scottish Disability Sport, are organising the first Festival of Inclusive Cycling in Scotland. This will take place on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th October at Lochore Meadows Country Park.

We are delighted to announce that Aileen McGlynne OBE, Paralympic Silver medallist, will be giving an inspirational presentation on becoming and being a Paralympic athlete.

The event is the first of its kind in Scotland and will include a presentation from one of Great Britain’s most successful para-cyclist’s, be able to choses from a variety of workshops from some of Scotland’s top experts in their field, join in with come and try taster sessions and delegates will have the opportunity to take part in coaching sessions.

Speaking about taking part in the conference Aileen McGlynn OBE said, “I am delighted to be supporting Scottish Cycling’s first Festival of Inclusive Cycling and am looking forward to meeting and speaking to all the attendees. I think it’s a great opportunity for riders, coaches, officials and those with an interest in cycling to get involved in the sport, come along and take part, in what I believe is going to be an excellent day.”

As well as Friday’s come and try session and workshops delegates will have the opportunity to attend a Level 2 Coaching workshop on Saturday. Coaching Riders with a Disability is a one day workshop aimed at developing the knowledge and skills of existing disability coaches and supporting those who wish to coach disabled riders for the first time. The workshop will assist coaches with their ability to plan, deliver and evaluate a series of safe, ethical and effective coaching sessions for groups of riders with a disability and be able to integrate individual riders into their existing coaching sessions within level 2 coaching environments.

Craig Burn, Scottish Cycling’s Chief Executive said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Scottish Disability Sport to put on our first Festival of Inclusive Cycling and are delighted that one of Great Britain best paralympians, Aileen McGlynn OBE,  is able to join us on what I believe is going to be a very interesting and informative day. We hope that as a result of the festival everyone enjoys the day and it prepares our delegates and coaches with the knowledge and experience to be more confident and better equipped when working with riders with a disability.”
