British Cycling’s Go-Ride Games week kicked off to a great start in the Highlands with a BMX time trial event in Inverness. The event was organised by Moray Firth Cycling Club’s Laura Nicolson and provided local children with the opportunity to take part in a skills session and then go on to time their fastest lap and compete for a range of prizes.

After a thundery afternoon, the sun came out for a glorious evening in Bught Park. After several practice laps, over 20 kids signed up to time their fastest lap. Age categories were split in to U10, U12 and U16 with each rider having one timed lap (and then begging for several more trying to get a new PB!)

With a buzzing atmosphere, cakes, cookies and juice flowing a fantastic evening was had by all. The winners were Kieran (U16 – 41 seconds), Charlie (U12 – 44 seconds) and Jack (U10 – 46 seconds).

Organiser, Laura Nicolson said: “I was delighted with the turn out. I love time trials and I sometimes wish I'd had a chance to give them a try before I was 25! I just wanted to get something going for kids in Inverness! The next Chris Hoy will be amongst these kids, just you watch!”

This event will be held again for the next 4weeks at 7pm on Tuesdays at the BMX park in Bught Park. If you would like to have a go email Laura Nicolson at laura@velocitylove.co.uk, or just turn up! All you need is a bike and a helmet!
