Scottish MTB Riders End Season on a High

Scottish riders finished the season on a high at the last round the British Mountain Bike Series at the fantastic Newnham course in Plymouth. The 9 hour journey did not stop the hardy band of Scots travelling down the country to tie up series positions. In the end the Scottish riders came ways with all but 1 of the 6 youth, junior and juvenile categories wins to round a fantastic season for Scottish riders.

Calum McGowan was the first of scots to take the title finishing as he started the season with a win making it five out of five for the talented youngster. Elena Melton rode a fantastic race to tail National Champion Ffion James home to a series best 2nd place which gave her 2nd overall in the series. Onto the youth race and Iain Paton made a decisive move on the last lap to take the win and series. The youth girls race presented the strongest show of Scottish dominance with Lucy grant taking both the win and the series followed in shortly after by Isla short and Yuka Gallagher.

Onto the juniors and after a up and down season Katy Winton stormed back to form to take the win by 3 minutes and the series overall. Hannah Ferguson finished in 4th which was enough to give her 3rd overall in the series.

The junior boy's series was a formality for European Silver Medallist Grant Ferguson but the fact that his nearest challenger was fellow country man Tom Evans was cause for celebration. Tom's rise to form has continued unabated throughout the season and he finished the season with his highest placing which moved him from fourth to second in the series.

After a long and hard European campaign which culminated in the World Championships Lee craigie finished the season with a podium position in 3rd and some important UCI points. Dave Henderson had his work cut out in the Elite men's fighting a race long battle for 5th place. It came down to a last lap scrap and unfortunately he missed out finishing in a still fine 8th position. Gareth Montgomerie recovering from a broken collar bone rode a solid race to finish 10th.

After another hugely successful season Scottish Cycling would like to thank all the riders, club coaches and parents for there dedication and hard work and wishes everybody the best of luck for the 2012 season.
