Recruiting Now - Volunteer Team Managers and Coaches for the Inter-Regional Championships and UK School Games 2017

Scottish Cycling are looking to recruit committed individuals to lead and support our riders attending the Road, Mountain Bike XC, BMX and Track Inter-Regional Championships in 2017.

There are four events during the summer with opportunities for volunteers to take on the role of Team Manager or Coach.  The events are as follows:

Inter-Regional Road Championships (Part of the UK School Games 2017)

31st August – 3rd September – Loughborough University, Loughborough

  • 1 x Coach required

Inter-Regional BMX Championships

9th-10th September – National Cycling Centre, Manchester

  • 1 x Team Manager, 3 x Coaches required

Inter-Regional MTB XC Championships

15th-17th September – Venue TBC (14th-18th September to Include Travel)

  • 2 x Team Manager, 2 x Coaches required

Inter-Regional Track Championships

Date and Venue TBC

  • 1 x Team Manager, 1 x Coach required

The Inter-Regional Championships have been developed over the past six years and provide an exciting opportunity for youth riders to represent Scotland, taking on the very best riders within the UK. 

The events also provide an exciting opportunity for volunteers to get involved in either a Team Manager or Coach capacity.  There are a number of roles available as noted above, and if any of these interest you, we would love to hear from you.

       Scottish Cycling is looking to appoint a Team Manager who will be responsible for:

  • Working closely with Scottish Cycling Performance Staff and Team Coaches in the selection of team members

  • Working closely with the team coach to deliver any pre-event coaching sessions

  • Team entry and administration, meeting all required deadlines

  • Logistics, travel and accommodation arrangements alongside Scottish Cycling Admin support

  • Organisation of team clothing requirements in conjunction with Scottish Cycling’s Admin support

  • The effective management of the team during the event

  • Upholding a duty of care and adhering to the team manger code of conduct as published by British/Scottish Cycling ahead of the event

  • Accounting for all financial costs and receipts

  • Event report and results on the performance of the team at the event

     Scottish Cycling is looking to appoint a Team Coach who will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the Team Manager in selecting a team of riders

  • Work and liaise with the selected riders club coaches to ensure and an effective coaching and competition programme prior to the specific event

  • Support the team manager in carrying out their duties pre event and during the event itself

  • Provide coaching advice and feedback to the riders in the team whilst at the event and helping riders to perform to the best of their ability

  • Work with the riders at the event to ensure they gain a positive learning and development experience whilst giving their best to perform both as individuals and as part of a team

  • Upholding a duty of care and adhering to the team coach code of conduct as published by British/Scottish Cycling head office ahead of the event

     All Team Managers and Coach Applicants must:

  • Be current British Cycling members

  • Have a validated and up to date PVG Check

  • Have a good knowledge of the best practices when working with young people. Previous experience of working with this group is desirable although not essential as long as the depth knowledge can be proven

  • Have in depth knowledge and experience of the discipline of the event

  • Respect the Rider code of conduct, and set good examples

  • Have a valid Level 2 British Cycling coaching qualification (Team Coach role only)

  • Hold a current valid BC verified first aid certificate (Team Coach role only)
