Colomba Chemo Classic Charity Ride
New charity ride gives cyclists of all abilities the chance to ride alongside the best young British pros, such as Giro D'Italia rider Ben Swift, to promote awareness of cancer and benefits of a healthy lifestyle amongst younger generations.
The Colomba Chemo Classic is an event born of hope and determination. The brainchild of nineteen-year-old Robert Knibbs who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a form of cancer affecting the Lymph system, on the 15th of October 2008, this event strives to promote the values that help people through their struggle with cancer and highlight the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle.
The dream of an event representing the values that carried Robert though his successful battle against cancer began to be realised when Colomba Cycle Company came on board as sponsor and offered to help with promotion, logistics and the cost of organising such an event.
Being a young and aspiring cyclist, Robert wanted to encourage top young cyclists beginning to carve out a career in cycling to act as patrons of the event and show their responsibility as role models, thus promoting amongst younger generations the awareness of how cancer affects peoples' lives.
The response from the riders contacted was highly encouraging with a good number willing to show their support for the cause. One such rider confirmed to take part in the ride is neo-pro Ben Swift who, while making is debut in the Giro D'Italia for Team Katusha, scored a stage third place behind no less than Alessandro Pettachi and Mark Cavendish. Also down to ride is Welshman Geriant Thomas, a professional with Barloworld whose palmares includes the junior Paris Roubaix and several Tour De France completions.
The event will be taking place on Saturday, 14 November 2009 and will be held over a challenging route of 65 miles taking in a variety of rolling and hilly terrain in the beautiful setting of the Yorkshire Dales where cycling in the UK is at it's best. The ride HQ being in the town of Richmond.
Please help make this event a success and support a very important cause by showing your support and aiding the growth of a valuable addition to the cycling calendar. All profits from the ride will go to Cancer Research.
As an added incentive entrants to the ride will be offered a Colomba SportwoolTM Cycling Jersey at heavily discounted prices.
