Location: Lyle Hill, Battery Park, Gourock
Event: 23 September 2012
Report: Snowdon Sports

Winner last year, David Griffiths (Glasgow wheelers) made it two in a row in Inverclyde Velo’s event over the 1.1-mile climb of Lyle Hill, near Battery Park.

The 21-year-old completed the ascent in 4 min 1,57 sec – eleven seconds quicker than his winning time 12 months earlier – on a cklear and bright morning when the prevailing south westerly was against the riders for the first two-thirds of the climb but offered a tailwind run to the finish.

Second place went to veteran Jamie Kennedy (Glasgow Couriers), just over four seconds down, with a further gap of 13 seconds to the promoting club’s Scott Newman in third place.

The first three also filled the podium places in the incorporated West of Scotland championship as Sandy Gilchrist’s long-standing course record of 3-45 survived for another day.

Result:

1 David Griffiths (Glasgow Wheelers) 4-01.57
2 Jamie Kennedy (Glasgow Couriers) 4-05.87
3 Scott Newman (Inverclyde Velo) 4-18.90
4 John Paterson (Classic RT) 4-18.95
5 Stephen Couper (Glasgow United CC) 4-40.12
6 Hans Forhaug (Glasgow United CC) 4-43.85
