Report: Snowdon Sports

Jason White was the fortunate winner of the London Phoenix RR after finishing second in the bunch sprint he was promoted to winner after Lewis Atkins (Pedal Heaven) was disqualified.

On a flat course a good field of 60 riders set out to complete 75 miles of a 13 lap circuit which was 5.8 miles long.

Racing was flat out from the start with Michael Mottram (GS Henley) and Jake Martin (Pedal Heaven RT) launching early attacks which were brought back by the bunch.

With 25 miles to go a group of five riders went clear including Owen Lake (Twenty 3C), Joe Giggins (PCH UK Racing), Tom Neale (Spalding CC), Anders Christensen (Pedal Heaven RT) and Ian Knight (Team Corley Cycles) and they built up a lead of 55 seconds.

But they were brought back by a resurgent bunch just before the bell lap with 5.8 miles to go and nobody was able to get clear on the final lap leading to a bunch sprint finishing the 75 miles in 2 hours 45 minutes.

Atkins was victor in the sprint but he and six other riders had been disqualified a few laps earlier for crossing the double white line on an uphill rise.

So National Master Scratch Champion White, aged 40 and from Benfleet, took the victory ahead of Neal in second and Jake Hales (Team IG-Sigma Sport) in third.
