Event: 15 August 2013
Report: Snowdon Sports

Second and third in earlier events, Genadijs Tilgalis (Peterborough CC) stepped up to top spot in the penultimate round of the Northants CRA’s handicap series on the Rockingham Raceway close circuit.

The improving 20-year-old Peterborough rider, who had attacked off the front with two laps to go the previous week only to be pulled back in at the bell, made no mistake this time to score the first win of his debut season at the head of a four-man break, who attacked from the rest of the third-category group and were rewarded for their initiative as they stayed away to the finish.

Tilgalis led the sprint home ahead of Peter Nicholls (Bio Cadenza RT), James Gelsthorpe (Bourne Wheelers) and Hans van Nierop (Welland Valley CC), with junior Charlie Bratt (St Ives CC) and Robin Cawser (Leicester Forest CC) going with the leaders as they powered past the fourth-category group and, although not quite able to hang on to them to the finish, staying away to secure fifth and sixth places in front of the best of the second categories who got up to claim the rest of the top ten places.
