Steven Guymer (Clay Cross RT) sprinted out of a 13-man breakaway to claim his first win of the season in the Thornton Trophy Road Race.

Riders were greeted with wet roads and heavy rain throughout the 67 mile race which wasn’t decided until a late 13-man breakaway escaped the bunch on the last lap.

Guymer, aged 24, from Cottingham took a narrow sprint victory by half-a-wheel from Giles Harrison of Corbridge, with Shaun Tyson from Hartlepool finishing a close third.
