More than 130 top UK cyclists have signed up for the Virgin Money Cyclone weekend’s Premier Calendar Beaumont Trophy and National Women’s Series Curlew Cup, with more than a month to go.

The Beaumont Trophy race, the third in British Cycling’s 2013 Premier Calendar series, already has 94 riders signed up. Top UK teams including Herbal Life Leisure Lakes Bikes.com, NODE4 Giordana Racing, Rapha Condor JLT, SPinROTOR-PrimalEurope-COriginals, Team Hope Factory Racing, Team Raleigh, Team UK Youth and Wheelbase Altura MGD have already submitted teams for the race.

"To have so many riders signed up so early on is an encouraging start for this year’s Cyclone weekend and there are still some spaces for riders to full up the fields."

Organiser Peter Harrison

The Curlew Cup, which takes place on the morning of Sunday 30 June, has more than 30 riders signed up. An elite Matrix Racing Fitness Academy team and Scott Contessa Epic team will ride at the Northumberland National Park sponsored event. European Cyclo-Cross champion Helen Wyman is also signed up to ride the race.

Virgin Money Cyclone weekend organiser Peter Harrison said: “To have so many riders signed up so early on is an encouraging start for this year’s Cyclone weekend and there are still some spaces for riders to full up the fields. The events promise to create quite a spectacle.

“Over the next few weeks it will be great to see the field for Friday 28 June’s Leazes Criteriums develop. It is always a great ace on a great course and a £4,000 prize pot works as a good incentive for the riders!”

The Leazes Criteriums, Curlew Cup and Beaumont Trophy are the elite racing elements of the Virgin Money Cyclone weekend which includes something for cyclists of all sorts – from the Tyne 6 Bridges Leisure Rides on Thursday 27 June to the Virgin Money Cyclone Challenge 33, 63 and 104 mile rides for up to 4,000 people on Saturday 28 June.
