Riders for the Virgin Money Cyclone weekend’s elite Beaumont Trophy and Curlew Cup races (1 July) have been confirmed today as 4,000 cyclists prepare to hit the North East.
The races, which are the finale to the four-day and five-event Virgin Money Cyclone weekend and start and finish in the Northumberland village of Stamfordham, will both feature some of the UK’s top riders.
Starting at 9.30am, the Curlew Cup women’s race will feature 42 of the top UK female riders such as Sarah Storey.
Starting at 1pm, the Beaumont Trophy men’s race starts at 1pm with a field of 153 riders packed with some of the UK’s top teams and riders.
The Virgin Money Cyclone weekend starts on Thursday (28) June with the Tyne 6 Bridges leisure rides along the banks of the river Tyne. On the evening of Friday 29 June it is the turn of the professionals as they hit Newcastle’s Leazes Park for the Leazes Park criterium races.
On Saturday 30 June, thousands of riders, from beginners to professionals, will take on the Virgin Money Cyclone Challenges – one of the UK’s biggest mass participation bike rides – before the Curlew Cup and Beaumont Trophy races on Sunday 1 July.
