The junior squad of the Champion System / Maxgear / Kyklos Racing team has officially been invited to ride as a guest team in the Halfords Tour Series for the Redditch and Stoke-On-Trent rounds of the series.

With the team consisting of some of the best UK junior riders including Chris Latham, Chris Lawless, Hugh Carthy, Jake Ragan, and Luc Hall, the squad is ‘confident it can hold its own competing with the cream of the Uk senior pro peloton’.

“It’s an awesome opportunity for the riders to compete in the series and show the audience what young talent the UK has,” commented team manager Wayne Greenhalgh.

“The juniors are used to riding very fast criterium style races in the UK and Europe and I’m confident they won’t merely be making up the numbers. These guys are hungry for success and the TV exposure will only add fuel to their fire.”

The team, which won the Revolution track series including future stars winner Jake Ragan, has been competing in the Junior National Series with the riders finishing top 10 in every event so far including a one-two at the recent Tour of Isle Of Man prologue.

In Europe, with many of the riders being part of the Great Britain squad, the riders have ridden in junior races including Paris-Roubaix, the Tour of Croatia and the Course de la Paix where Chris Lawless took third on the final stage.

Commenting on the news, Great Britain Olympic Development Programme rider Chris Lawless said: “I’m really looking forward to the chance to race in the tour series and would like to thank the organisers for the opportunity.

“Last year I won the National Youth Criterium Champs along with many other crits, so I’m confident with a strong team we can be competitive and put on a good race for the spectators and sponsors. Being the first junior squad makes it even better and I hope that it inspires other young riders to start cycling and racing.”
