Race: Ronde Van Woensdrecht
Sunday 18 March 2012 | Report: Team Manager Matt Winston

Following on from her team-mate in the previous day’s Omloop Van Strijen, Elinor Barker, the world junior time trial silver medallist, went one better, winning the 14 lap Ronde Van Woensdrecht.

On lap three of fourteen, Elinor attacked with Garner and the GB pair got away. For seven laps they worked together but were unable to extend their lead beyond 20 seconds over the chasing bunch.

With four laps to go, Elinor gapped Lucy on a short climb and whilst Garner was forced to drop back to the chasing bunch, Barker seemed to draw strength from going it alone and she duly soloed to an impressive win.

Olympic Talent Team rider Melissa Lowther also had a good day when she got into a group of 3 chasing Elinor with lap and a half to go. And whilst Elinor won, Melissa came over the line to claim 2nd but first youth.

Lucy stayed in the bunch to the end before winning the sprint for 5th. She joined Barker on the podium as the 3rd placed junior in the race.

Pic of the day!

The GB riders number-up in a highly efficient manner!
