The Great Britain world championship winning team pursuit trio of Wendy Houvenaghel, Dani King and Laura Trott as well as Lucy Garner and Sarah Storey have been shortlisted for the 2011 Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Awards.

Houvenaghel, King and Trott are contenders for the ‘Team of the Year’ award, world junior road race champion Garner the ‘Young Sportswoman of the Year’ and multiple road and track world champion Storey the ‘Disabled Sportswoman of the Year’.

Now in their 24th year, the Sportswomen of the Year Awards are among the most prestigious and influential in the British sporting calendar. As well as celebrating high-profile female letes – previous winners include Paula Radcliffe, Sally Gunnell, Pippa Funnell, Denise Lewis, Dame Kelly Hoathlmes and Zara Phillips – the event recognises women at all levels of British sporting life, from leading sportswomen through to the rising stars of the future.

The winners will be revealed at an awards ceremony held at the Sunday Times offices in London on the evening of Wednesday 7 December 2011.
