Beeston Road Club's Neil Beasley took a narrow victory in the Doncaster Wheelers' Autumn Road Race in North Nottinghamshire on Sunday.

The 40-year-old from Gedling edged out breakaway rival Rob Watkinson, the 37-year-old member of the promoting club, at the end of the 50-mile race held over ten laps of a five-mile circuit around Harworth and Bircotes.

Watkinson had been part of an earlier six-man break which went clear on the first lap, and although they never really got much more than 20 seconds up on the 50-strong bunch they managed to stay clear until three laps to go.

With a bunch sprint looking likely, Watkinson clipped off the front, but was picked up by Neil Beasley who just managed to hold him off as they dragged up the uphill finish, while the bunch was led in around five seconds behind by Wilson's Wheels rider Nathan Wilson from Driffield in East Yorkshire.

The popular circuit had attracted around 50 advance entries, and with ideal and dry sunny conditions several riders turned up to ride on the day, swelling the field.
