British Cycling has named 13 riders that will represent Great Britain at the UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships, taking place in Roskilde, Denmark, on 8 - 11 September.

To maximise medal opportunities at this crucial event, the team includes four Paralympic Road Champions - Darren Kenny, Rachel Morris, David Stone and Sarah Storey - as well as Shaun McKeown and Karen Darke who have shown strong form this year and will be hoping to medal at the competition.

A number of promising new riders who have impressed at this year's Para-Cycling Road World Cup series have also been selected. Mark Colbourne, Simon Price and Crystal Lane will be making their Road World Championships debut and a podium in Denmark could take them a step closer to competing at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Team Manager Gareth Sheppard said: "These World Championships are the last important road marker for us before London 2012 and the final opportunity to measure our performance against that of the international field.

"We have therefore selected a squad that is capable of bringing home many medals and scoring as many qualification points as possible. We have also given a number of up-and-coming athletes vying for a spot on the London 2012 road team an opportunity to prove themselves at the highest level."

"It's a massive event, it's important for us and everyone else. Every other nation will be at these World Championships with the same intention as us. It will give us a good idea of where we and other team are in terms of performance."

We caught up with GB Para-Cycling Team Coach Jayne Ellis to discuss the Para-Cycling Road World Championships, the team's build up to the event and its part in the preparations for the Games next year.
