Cycling enthusiasts are being given the chance to test themselves against GB Para-Cycling Team's riders at the Cyclothon UK endurance race at Brands Hatch racing circuit.

Shaun McKeown will be present at the Cyclothon UK endurance race

The team, which won 17 gold medals at the Beijing Paralympics, will be racing against a host of sports stars including 2003 Rugby World Cup winning Mark Regan and Victor Ubogu and cycling enthusiasts, looking for a once in a lifetime challenge, at the event on the 15th September.

Britain's leading para-cyclists Shaun McKeown, Darren Kenny, David Stone, Karen Darke and Rik Waddon will be making their first public appearance at the event following the UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships in Denmark on 8-11 September, where medals for Britain are expected.

Cyclothon UK is an endurance race which aims to challenge the skills, stamina and endurance of cyclists around the 2.3 mile Grand Prix circuit. Solo riders or teams can enter a range of fun and competitive races of either eight or twelve hours. The event is organised by VU Ltd, the sports and hospitality company founded by Ex-England and Bath rugby player Victor Ubogu. Victor will be racing on the day with competing teams from England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

Confirmed entrants so far include: Craig Chalmers, Doddie Weir and David Hilton (Team Jocks); John Callard, Rory Underwood, Phil De Glanville, Nigel Redman, Ben Sturnham, Mark Regan, Paul Rendall and Victor Ubogu (Team Bulldogs).

Talking about the event Shaun McKeown said: "September is going to be a pretty busy month for us all. We will be training hard for the Road World Championships in Denmark and then returning to race and meet fellow cycling enthusiasts at the Cyclothon UK. Importantly with Brands Hatch being the venue for the 2012 Paralympic road cycling events, it will be a great opportunity for our team to get some practice in ahead of the Games next year."

Victor Ubogu commented: "As the Cyclothon approaches we are all looking forward to what will be fantastic, if challenging event. Having GB Para-Cycling Team on board will really set the standard on the day and inspire all entrants to keep challenging themselves to perform to their very best. Personally I am looking forward to meeting the team and getting some tips ahead of the race."

Team entry to Cyclothon UK costs £250 + VAT per person. Teams get half a pit garage, medical support, free massage, mechanical support, timing equipment, breakfast, lunch and refreshments and other benefits. A buffet dinner and awards ceremony will follow the 7.30pm race finish. Teams can bring their own supporters to make the event a great day out.

A solo entry category has also been added to the challenge launched in response to individuals who want to take part but can't get a team together. Registration for solo category is £95 per person and includes all the benefits of the team entry but without the team garage facility.
