Event: 28th July 2011
Report: David Morton

It was a night of very aggressive racing at Prissick in the latest of the North East Evening Criteriums.

The scratch group settled down to deliver solid 1 minute 23 second laps of the 1km circuit. Meanwhile at the front Alex Clayton of Durham University Aura Cycles broke clear of the first group and stayed away long enough to secure himself the first prime of the night.

After 15 laps the bunch came together only to see an attack by Tom Timmothy later joined by Jack Rees (both of VC29). A further attack from the bunch saw Richard Meadows (Pendragon), Dan Smith, Michael Dales, and Chris Mark (all Velo 29) bridge across to the two leaders. Alex Bottomley also joined them and two laps later the bunch was shattered by attack and counter attack.

Alex Bottomley, Chris Mark and Dan Smith managed to form a three-man break while five chasers - Rees, Dales, Meadows, Timothy and Simon Baxter, formed behind them. The second prime of the evening eventually going to Dan Smith.

Lapped riders and the remnants of the bunch caused some confusion and with only a few laps remaining the three leaders were caught. A counter attack saw Jack Rees, Simon Baxter and Chris Mark break clear and the final sprint was narrowly won by Jack Rees from Simon Baxter. Mark came in third and Michael Dales came in fourth with his team mate Tom Timothy just behind him.
