Vincent Victorious in Somerset

John Andrews Memorial Road Race (Yeovil CC), 12 June 2011
Long Sutton, Somerset
Report: Snowdon Sports

AFTER spending much of the race out in front alone, Mid-Devon CC's Peter Vincent proved a deserved winner of the John Andrews Memorial Road Race, promoted by Yeovil CC on a circuit near Long Sutton in Somerset on Sunday.

Vincent attacked on the first of 12 laps of a four-mile circuit and caught the remaining 61 riders cold, opening up a gap of nearly a minute at one point as he ate up the miles.
The chasing bunch were not helped by wet conditions which caused a couple of minor crashes, and left Vincent out in front until the penultimate lap of a circuit which was mainly flat apart from a couple of small drags.

Many expected Vincent to be swallowed up and drop back, but instead he tagged on to the back of the new leading group, and with around two kilometers remaining he jumped again, establishing a gap of around eight seconds on his nearest rival as he crossed the line.

Second cat junior Will Stephenson (Bournemouth Arrow) took second spot after clinging to Vincent's shadow for the closing stages, while Adeo Cadence RT took third, fourth and fifth, with Ben Anstie securing the final spot on the podium, 1:54 behind the winner.

Last year's race winner, Jules Birks (VC Londres) was seventh.
