Cat 4 Report

Jo Burt (Kinesis / Morvelo), Steve Kane (Brighton Excelsior) and Phil Allen (Brighton Mitre) were the main pace-setters in the Cat 4 race, doing a large amount of work to split the field of 18 early on. Jo's efforts unfortunately took their toll and he slipped back through the group around half way. The lead-group of six, containing Phil Allen, Steve Kane, Paul Flynn (Private member), Matt Coombes (Lewes Wanderers CC), Serge Hunt (Addiscombe CC), Mark Emsley (Brighton Excelsior) were again put under pressure in the later stages of the race again by Phil Allen, pushing over the hill, stretching the group out to breaking point.

With all 6 together on the last lap, Phil turned on the power to win comfortably from Steve Kane, closely followed by Paul Flynn. A great win, and a very welcome addition to the Mitre 3rd cats.

Cat 2/3 report

Of the 25 riders on the start line of a chilly second round at Hove Park, it was Mitre's own Mark Mergler; clearly inspired by Phil's previous win to be the first to attack in a fast paced 2/3 race. Managing to stay off the front for a couple of laps, Mark dropped through the bunch as a group of three, containing Mike Coyle (Brighton Mitre), Will Kemp (One Life), and (as yet undefeated on this course) Red Kite's Euan Adams made their move. The three quickly established a considerable lead, eventually lapping their chasing group of ten.

With 4 laps to go, the group attacked each other. As they came up to the bunch, Mike and Will got through, losing Euan, who had to let his breakaway companions ride off to contest the win. Mike crossed the line arms aloft to claim Mitre's second win of the evening; the bunch sprinting in shortly after, led in by Stuart Harvey (Ultimate Fitness) from Philip Glowinski (VCL) , Oli Pepper (Kinesis / Morvelo) and Charlie Sayer (Brighton Mitre).

Frazer Clifford (Kinesis/Morvelo), unlucky to lose contact with the bunch, put in an impressive time-trial behind the bunch for 3/4 of the race, coming close to lapping his two chasers. Mitre's Toby Leyton rode bravely, and was unlucky to be jumped on the last lap by Carsten Duke (London Dynamo)
