Last week’s winner in the 4th category race, Andrew Ghagan (VC Elan), became this week’s winner in the 3rd category race, a first for this series and he'll will be one to keep an eye on in future races. Second over the line came David Ladkin (Kingston Wheelers) from Simon Dawson (Inverse/Cyclaim RT).

The E/1/2/3 race was completely the opposite to the others, splitting up almost immediately due to one man, our previous series winner, Jerone Walters (Sigma Sport) who was in scintillating form. With the backing of his two team mates, super strong men Steve Golla and Wouter Sybrandy, Walters attacked almost from the start with two other riders going with him - young Oliver Newlan (Twickenham CC) and Ishmael Burdeau (Agiskoviner).

They stayed together for 8km until Burdeau dropped off, quickly followed by Newlan and effectively that was that. In the conditions, it was difficult to believe, he made it seem effortless and a joy to watch, however, it must be said that his two team mates probably disrupted any organised chase from behind.

After 30km, however, Sybrandy together with Alexander King (Cyclefit Racing Team), Tom Smith (Felt Colbornes) and overall leader of this series Lewis Atkins (Twenty 3C  Orbea ) did go clear. At first glance, Sybrandy’s tactics appeared somewhat strange as he seemed to do all the pulling in the quartet but he was surely calculating the distance his team mate was in the lead as they did not get close.

A third group formed towards the end of the race with Newlan, Golla again and Michael Widera (Inverse Racing/Cyclaim) but these were caught on the run in to the finish. Walters got a lot of deserved applause for his brilliant performance and was warmly congratulated by his wife and children before he rode home to Weybridge. Tom Smith improved on his last two races and led the second group in ahead of Atkins with King and Sybrandy in 3rd and 4th place. Long time Winter Series campaigner, Vince Halpern (Awcycles.co.uk), led the reminding riders in after a difficult and trying day.
