Team Royal London 360 Youth League Round 11

Story posted July 2; by Dot Tilbury

Conditions were once again perfect  for the 297 competitors who turned out at a balmy NSC last Tuesday night for round 11 of Team Royal London 360 youth league. Returning after a three week absence, Sophia Littlewood stole a march on the rest of the field to bag her second victory in the novices class. Round nine and ten winner Harvey Coole outsprinted Sam Cunningham in a close battle for second and Ryan Blair edged out Mia Littlewood for fourth. Emma Stratford led Harry Callin, Ryan Edwards, Amy Quayle, and Matilda Clague over the line to complete the top six.

Harry Kneen rode away from the pack at the start of the born 2005 & later category and was never caught. Nathan Cannell outgunned Joseph Humphrey, Luke Saunders, Niall Colquitt and Aaron Christian in the dash for second, with Mairi Harrison clipping off the front of the main chasing group to grab seventh. Chloe Comaish led the main bunch home for eighth spot.

In the born 2004 event Zac Walker got the better of Dillon Dowson in the final dash for the honours. Ralf Holden fought off a strong challenge from Joshua Dudley to claim the final place on the podium, while Cameron Dudley and Ben Boyle overtook James Devereau on the final lap to snatch fifth and sixth respectively. Harry Whitehouse was well placed for a top 12 position when a pedal worked loose and he was forced to push in, eventually finishing 44th.

Jake Wilson and Percy Hampton had another close fight in the born 2003 race, with Jake coming out on top for the second week in succession. Matthew Black was a solid third and Jonty Bregazzi got away from Jack Christian, Oliver Williams, Jack Collister and Darcy Cain to grab fourth. Ben Grainger beat Jamie Meggitt in the tussle for ninth.

Preserving his unbeaten record for another week, Charlie Gibson powered away from the start for another fine solo win in the born 2002 class. Will Corkill dropped fellow chaser James Harrison on the final circuit to fill the runners-up spot and Aaron Lund got the verdict over Sam Corlett, Nicholas Kissack and Wilfy Kermode in the sprint for fourth. Fin Samson held off Liam Crook for eighth and Ethan Quirk held off Jack Whitelegg and leading girl Caitlin Christian to round off the top ten.

Born 2001 victor Max Walker got an early gap and successfully defended it all the way to the finish. Tyler Cain took a safe second ahead of Juan Kneen and Emma Draper, with Tosh Teare leading Cullen Gell and Chloe Crellin in for fifth.

Luke Murray had to overcome Ben Christian, Thomas Bostock and Sam Batey in the frantic sprint that decided the outcome of the born 2000 three lapper. Adam Kelly pipped Joseph Corkish for fifth and Ruby Kennedy was the first girl in tenth place.

In the born 1999-97 age group Matthew Draper rode clear of breakaway partner Phoebe Ferguson on the final lap to secure a well judged win. Sam Mills ousted Breesha Quirk, Will Quirk and Ben Cunningham for third.

Proving to be the strongest in a nine strong bunch sprint for the line, Thomas Bostock secured his first win of the series in the very well supported under 10 racing bikes. William Draper was second followed by Luke Murray and Charlie Gibson, who was first in the under 8's category.

Owen Dudley beat Matthew Draper by the narrowest of margins to increase his lead in the overall standings of the under 12 racing bikes. The ever improving Dan Watterson, who actually led the race at the end of the penultimate lap, was a plucky third, with Sam Mills the best of the chasers in fourth spot.

The in-form Jake Kelly took the honours in the under 16 racing bikes. Jamie Dudley was a very good second and Alex Haddock third. Matthew Davies, Nicholas Corlett and Joshua Knights filled the remaining places on the top six leader board.
