Royal London 360 Isle of Man Youth League
August 11, 2009; Round 17; Thanks to Dot Tilbury
Despite the changeable weather conditions, there was a good turn out of 202 competitors at the National Sports Centre last Tuesday night for round 17 of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man's youth league.
Edward Teare notched up his second success of the series in the novices class. Chloe Comaish was a safe second ahead of Harvey Coole, who outgunned Francesca Avery, Mia Littlewood, Sophia Littlewood and Chloe Dillon for the final place on the podium. Luca Moretta was a good eighth and Lisa McMullin grabbed ninth in front of a trio of chasers consisting of Callum Salisbury, Joey Magee and Ryan Edwards.
In the born 2004 & later age group Dillon Dowson rode away from the field to complete a comfortable solo victory. Joshua Dudley beat brother Cameron to the line for second place and Harvey Lawrence outsprinted James Devereau for fourth. Harry Kneen led top girls Mairi Harrison and Mia Worthington home to complete the top six.
After making an early break for glory, Jake Wilson held off a late charge from Jonty Bregazzi to increase his tally of wins to four. The fast finishing Darcy Cain picked up the girls' prize in third place, with Jack Christian and Matthew Black coming in separately for fourth and fifth. Relative newcomer Joshua Jones was an impressive sixth in only his third appearance and Matthew Cooil escaped from twins Tom and Leah Brennan to claim seventh. Seth Coole was a steady tenth ahead of Aaron Kirk, Megan Cannell and James Gartshore, who pipped Kitty Thomas for 13th position.
Aaron Lund attacked from the gun and gradually pulled away from main rival James Harrison for an emphatic victory in the born 2002 category. Fin Samson got the better of Sam Corlett for third and Jamie McCann got past Will Corkill on the home straight to grab fifth. Blae Cain was the best girl in seventh spot and Elliot Lawrence beat Alastair Flint in the dash for eighth. Charlie Moss rounded off the top ten leader board.
Leaving nothing to chance, Max Walker took an early lead in the born 2001 event and maintained it all the way to the finish. Adam Scarffe, who is Walker's main opposition for the overall honours, was a solid second and Juan Kneen eventually got the better of Tyler Cain for third. Emma Draper and Jake Vance rode clear of a six-strong chasing group to secure fifth and sixth respectively, with Matthew Flint leading the rest home in seventh spot.
Thomas Bostock came off Sam Batey's wheel to snatch first place in the three-way sprint that decided the outcome of the born 2000 class. Ben Christian was third and Adam Long, who just failed to stay with the three frontrunners, a close fourth. The ever improving Lucas Mudie was fifth ahead of Harry Cain and best girl Ciara Sowerby. Late arrival Jake Flowers started almost a full lap down and did well to work his way up to tenth place.
Born 1999 winner Marcus Simpson upped the pace on the final lap and split the field, crossing the line with a clear advantage over nine times winner Conor Davies. Early leader Liam McCann salvaged third and Daniel Scarffe was a secure fourth ahead of Joseph Glover and Alex Cain. The first girl home was Jessica Lloyd in seventh position.
For the second time this year Laura Kinley beat all comers to bag maximum points in the born 1998-96 grouping. Laura went from the gun and time trialed to victory, building up a substantial lead on the way. Rory McCann shrugged off a strong challenge from Sophie Black to take second, while the consistent Jamie Faragher had a trouble free ride in fourth place. Kyle Casement had the edge on Madran Hull and James Costain in the tussle for fifth.
Owen Dudley attacked breakaway partners Joseph Haddock and Nathan Draper on the penultimate circuit to record his sixth successive victory. Matthew Draper recovered from a crash in the previous race to beat Conor Davies and Marcus Simpson for fourth place. Breeshey Cain returned from holiday to take the girls' award in seventh spot.
Alex Haddock got the verdict over John Sanderson in the gallop at the end of the under 16 racing bikes. Nicholas Corlett ousted Jack Wolstencroft, Leon Mazzone and Matthew Davies for third, with Mayo International Youth Tour stage winner Anna Christian the leading girl in seventh place. Jake Kelly, who instigated the winning move, punctured with four laps to go and was forced to retire.
