Photographer Graham Robins was busy over the weekend visiting both the third Wessex Summer series event at Barnsfield Heath and the Thruxton Crits. We've got galleries of images from both linked above and a short report and a couple of sample images from the Wessex event below.
Wessex Cycle Racing League QinetiQ Summer Series 3
Saturday 25th July 2009
Barnsfield Heath
3/4 Cat Race: Several riders attacked from the start of the one hour plus one lap race. The race was very open and no one team seemed to be able to control the race. As riders went through the finish line there was a different leader. With one lap to go the entire bunch were together. The sprint finish was won by Matt McDonald (Hargroves/Trant) from Mark Hanby (Chippenham Wheelers).
E/1/2 Cat Race: There were several attacks from the start with two riders trying to get away. A third of the way through the race a group of eight started to work and managed to split the bunch into three defined groups. Lap after lap and this group were working well until with time running out the eight were reduced by two. As the leaders approached the uphill finish Steve Dring (Echelon-Spiuk) managed to get a wheel and won the sprint from Richard Eastham (Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers). These two riders are now first and second overall in the league.
