Report: Eddie Allen

British Cycling Olympic Development Programme athlete Emily Kay is best of the GB women after three stages of the junior edition of the Energiewacht Tour, based around the Netherlands city of Gronigen.

Kay finished sixth on the opening stage from Appingedam to Appingedam, 21 seconds back on stage winner (and eventual overall victor) Amy Hill (Wales). Kay's team mate Bethany Hayward also finished in the bunch in 38th position, while Melissa Lowther and Hayley Jones finished in 50th and 52th places respectively.

Stage two took the riders 67.1km from Eemsmond - Uithuizen and once again Kay was in the thick of it, in the lead group for the majority of the stage before being involved in a crash in the latter part of the race, also involving GC leader Hill. The pair chased back on, Hill getting back into the lead group to finish in the same time as stage winner Demi de Jong (NED) maintaining her overall lead into Sunday's final stage.Meanwhile Kay wasn't so lucky, losing 1:35 on the leaders leaving her back in 17th position on the General Classification.

The final stage on a circuit outside of Gronigen came down to a bunch sprint won by Floortje Mackaij of the Netherlands with GB's Emily Kay making the most of her killer sprint to take fourth, one place ahead of compatriot Hayley Jones, with GB's Melissa Lowther in 7th rounding out a trio of GB riders in the top ten.

Wales' Amy Hill also finished in the bunch, ensuring victory, a great result for the Wales Junior Programme Rider.
