Robert Donaldson claimed victory in the opening prologue of the Isle of Man Youth Tour Youth A Boys while Eluned King won the Youth A Girls event.
Giant Halifax Race Team’s Donaldson’s time of 1min 42sec was enough to take the win in the Youth A Boys from nearest rival Oliver Stockwell of Welwyn Wheels, who was second in the same time in the British Cycling | Youth Circuit Series event.
Donaldson’s Giant Halifax Race Team teammate Jack Rootkin-Gray came home in third a further second back but it is Lichfield City who sit two seconds clear of them in the team event.
In the Youth A Girls race, King sits two seconds clear of the rest of the field after a strong ride from the VCW Awol rider coming home in 1min 53sec.
Trailing her is Eva Young of Pedal Power RT, with Eve Barrow from Salt Ayre Cog Set third a further second back.
VCW Awol also lead the team classification after stage one, with a seven-second lead over Pink Jersey Race Team.
Hetton Hawks Cycling Club’s Ben Partridge was first in the Youth Boys B event, two seconds clear of Alfie Atterton with Dylan Edwards a further two seconds back.
And in the Youth Girls B race, Zoe Backstedt of Hotchillee was three seconds faster than second-placed Imani Pereira-James, with Grace Lister in third.
Racing continues on Saturday with Stage Two which is a relatively short stage, meaning that the prologue results could be crucial in the final shake-up of the general classification.
