Great Britain’s Owain Doull added to his second place at La Cote Picarde on Wednesday with a third place finish on stage one of the ZLM Roompot Tour in the Netherlands on Friday.

The event is the third stop on the UCI Under 23 Nations’ Cup, following the Ronde van Vlaanderen Beltoften on 11 April and La Cote Picarde on 15 April.

Cardiff-born Doull, accompanied by fellow Briton Jon Dibben made it into an elite selection as the peloton fractured with around 50 kilometres remaining of the 122-kilometre stage from Kamperland to Zierikzee in Zeeland.

An attack followed from Denmark’s Soren Kragh Andersen and Switzerland’s Tom Bohli, who were soon joined by Mads Petersen (DEN), Nico Denz (GER), Daan Myngheer (BEL) and Jon Dibben.

As the race approached the finish in Zierikzee, Andersen kicked again followed by Myngheer and the pair distanced Dibben, Denz and Petersen, who fell back into the peloton.

Andersen went on to take the sprint ahead of Myngheer while Doull headed the bunch home in third, 11 seconds down.

Dibben took 27th with teammates Chris Latham and Germain Burton 59th and 61st.

Oliver Wood was 77th while Mark Stewart, suffering the effects of a hard crash at La Cote Picarde, was 122nd.

The race continues on Friday evening with a 24.8-kilometre team time trial in Kamperland and concludes on Saturday with a 177.2-kilometre stage starting and finishing in Goes.
