Scott Davies kept hold of the under-23 jersey for the Great Britain Cycling Team as the penultimate stage of the Jayco Herald Sun Tour finished in a sprint on Saturday.

Davies, 19, was 23rd in the bunch after the 146.7-kilometre stage three from Mitchelton Winery to Nagambie.

The British Cycling Olympic Academy Programme athlete is now just one stage away from victory in the under-23 classification - Sunday’s 122-kilometre effort starting and finishing at Arthurs Seat.

But the brutal finale will take in three climbs of Arthurs Seat Road where time will be won and lost.

Davies’ teammate Grant Ferguson sits just two seconds back in the under-23 standings, an impressive showing from the mountain bike rider.

Orica-GreenEDGE’s Caleb Ewan won his second consecutive sprint with Cameron Meyer retaining the overall lead.

Six riders had formed the break just before the 10km mark - Adam Phelan (Drapac), Jake Kauffmann (Budget Forklifts), Cameron Bayly (search2retain-health.com.au), Jayden Copp, Ben Hill (CharterMason Giant), and Ryan Thomas (Data#3 Symantec).

And although it extended to a minute, it was reeled back inside the final three kilometres.
