Four new cycle sport facilities are being unveiled across the UK this summer as British Cycling continues its nationwide expansion of traffic free facilities across Britain, with the support of both local authorities and funding from Sport England.

Two impressive closed road circuits have just been completed, one in Tameside in Ashton under Lyne and one in Stourport in West Midlands. An innovative BMX track is also nearing completion in Redditch, West Midlands, and a state of the art pavilion building is in the final stages of completion at the renowned Hillingdon circuit in West London.

The recently unveiled circuit in Stourport (pictured above) is home to Stourport Sports Club that has built close links with local cycling clubs. The circuit will deliver a regular league of events while focusing on the development of youngsters from local schools into cycling. The project has received £448,000 from British Cycling's Whole Sport Plan (WSP) funding and a significant amount from match funding provided by Wyre Forest District Council.

Tameside Circuit (above) is the first purpose built circuit in Manchester and is expected to be in high demand from cycling clubs and organisers connected to the sport in the North West. The new venue is hosting a series of 10 circuit races running from June through to August. British Cycling contributed £300,000 of WSP funding with Tameside Council also backing the project.

The BMX Track in Redditch, which opened last week, has been designed to test the ability of the best international riders and is hoped to attract a number of major competitions over forthcoming years. British Cycling contributed £230,000 to this superb facility with Redditch Borough Council matching the funding at a local level.

The new clubhouse at Hillingdon Circuit, which opened on Tuesday, is now home to a new area for race administration. The clubhouse also has a storage area for event equipment and rooms available for meetings and club usage. £350,000 of WSP funding is supporting the project.

Ian Drake, CEO at British Cycling said: "I am delighted that these four projects are now nearing completion. In working closely with local authorities we have provided over £1 million of the Whole Sport Plan money from Sport England, to help fund these new facilities to ensure they are of the highest standard.

"These new facilities represent a major development in our efforts to bring excellent modern cycling facilities to local communities across Britain at a time when cycling is booming and the demand for venues to enjoy the sport is higher than ever before.

"These facilities will offer people of all ages and abilities an opportunity to enjoy cycling in a safe, controlled and traffic free environment from, supporting the growth of our sport at the grassroots and helping us develop future cycling stars."
