We at Welsh Cycling are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion across the sport in Wales. The ED&I journey in any organisation should not be a ‘tick box’ exercise and must have the commitment at leadership level to make a difference. Diverse and skilled boards are good for business and whilst Welsh Cycling recognises that the initial priorities are gender focused, we also need to manage the skill needs of delivering our strategy as well as having a more diverse board.

We recognise that Cycling as a sport is not as diverse as we would wish, therefore we will work to ensure that our organisation is more reflective of the population of Wales and to do this, we will focus on our processes including policies, induction, recruitment and most importantly how we engage with our people –inclusion with our partners, sponsors, staff, coaches, riders and officials.

Our values and behaviours are at the core of who we are and how we are perceived externally, so we are creating a culture that will support everything we do as a sport. As part of the Governance and Leadership Framework for Wales and our Equality Standards work we have an Equality Action Plan and carry out an annual equality audit which is a critical part of our understanding.

As we have similar ED&I issues to other sports, collaboration is key and sharing best practice to achieve our objectives is important.

Our policy was adopted at by the Welsh Cycling Board in July 2017, which includes positive action, implementation and monitoring and evaluation.
