Welsh Cycling has undertaken a review of our performance programmes over the last 12 months. As a result of this review, a decision has been made to make some changes, ensuring that we are maximising the impact of our resources.

We will be putting an increased emphasis on regional coaching opportunities to offer a better level of support to a greater number of young bike riders. This will involve monthly coaching sessions on a regional basis across the Commonwealth disciplines, weekly regional training sessions and support for club coach development.

Another focus will be local racing opportunities for youth riders, linked to the above regional coaching support.

We will continue to support a small number of youth & junior bike riders on an individual basis who will form the core of our Pathway programme.

As a result of these programme changes, we have created two new positions within the Performance team. John Holt has been appointed to the position of Pathway Coach and will have responsibility for coaching named riders on our Performance Pathway. Anthony O’Boyle has been appointed to the position of Pathway Development Coach and will have responsibility for increasing the number and skill level of youth riders racing at a regional and national level.

A calendar of activities for young athletes from the Youth A and B categories in 2020 (born 2004 – 2007) will shortly be publicised via our website and social media channels.
