October saw the launch of the Welsh Cycling Coaching Network. The big aim for this series of workshops was simply to get coaches talking about coaching. Four workshops were scheduled across Wales, with venues being Rhyl, Dolgellau, Carmarthen and Cardiff.

The format was designed to facilitate conversation between coaches and clubs, with very successful returns. Coaches have given feedback that they greatly valued the opportunity to “network and learn from others” and with “sharing ideas and experiences with other coaches”.

Coaches looked at what their role is as a coach before looking at the coaching environment that they would like to create and the impact that their “personal brand” has on this.

Welsh Cycling Workforce Officer Alistair Waldron delivered the course and was enthused by the responses. “In a way it was challenging to deliver the workshops, purely because of how much discussion there was! It was fantastic to see the coaches interacting, sharing experiences and learning off each other. Welsh Cycling are very keen to promote shared learning between coaches and these workshops have been a great first step”.

The Coaching Network will be returning after Christmas with further workshops planned to be more practical in nature. To register for the Coaching Network and be kept informed upcoming coaching events, please click here.
