Dringfa Ffordd Pen Llech - Steepest Street in the WorldThis Sunday – August 11th – will see riders from across Wales and beyond arrive in the historic town of Harlech, situated in Snowdonia National Park, to compete in our inaugural Dringfa Ffordd Pen Llech / Harlech Hell Climb event. 

Set against the picturesque back-drop of North Wales, with its coastline scenery and iconic landmark of Harlech Castle, competitors will take on the fierce Ffordd Pen Llech. As the minor road has officially been named as the Steepest Street in the World by the Guinness World Records, bragging rights are certainly at stake with the opportunity to conquer this beast of a climb. It is certain that Ffordd Pen Llech will be a buzz of activity throughout the day, making for a fantastic atmosphere.

With a gradient of 37.45%, the hill stretches across 310 metres, possesses a 50 metres elevation gain and has a 17% average gradient. It is certain that the sheer brutality of Ffordd Pen Llech will pose a serious challenge for the competitors and get their legs pumping this weekend.

With proceedings kicking off at 1pm, riders will be set off at intervals to individually battle it out for the honours. Riders have the opportunity to compete for equal prize money for the podium places in both the men’s and women’s races. However, there are no specific categories, just that the quickest times up the course of the savage climb will secure victory.

Not only is this an opportunity for competitors to take on the official Steepest Street in the World, but it also the chance to cast yourself amongst the best climbers in the world. The event is due to be a showcase of talent with some of the biggest names in welsh cycling also in attendance. With famous faces such as Dan Evans (2x British Hill Climb Champion), Jessica Evans (5x Welsh Hill Climb Champion), and SwiftCarbon Pro Cycling’s Ed Laverack all be battling it out to be crowned champion, it will definitely be a very exciting event.
